Bluebonnets and passports

Here's a preview of one of our pics from the Bluebonnet fundraiser.  Kelly McG is just plain awesome!  Once I have all the donations from the shoot, I'll post our total (waiting for a few donations to get here from that) and some more pictures.  We're getting there.  God is good.  He sent amazing Bluebonnets this year, after all.  It's been years since it's looked like this.  It's awesome to sit in the middle of them.  The scent is so strong and so beautiful.  I love central Texas this time of year.

Well, I mentioned that we were waiting on passports.  You know where this is going, right?  Yep!  God did it AGAIN!  They got here in 1 1/2 weeks!!!  Would you mind it if I wrote that again?  1 1/2 weeks!!!  It was supposed to take 4-6.  We still need about $3300 right NOW but God is doing amazing things.  We have been blessed beyond measure. Some days I wake up and panic but God is faithful and I keep handing it back to him then taking it back then handing it.....

Well, this Texas girl is tuckered out and ready to watch some late night Bugs Bunny with my kids before we all climb into bed.  Goodnight, y'all.

Movin' Right Along (dooga doog dooga doog)

Well, we're 1/3 of the way to our finacial goal.  ONLY $4000 to go in 1 week.  I'll update as we go, but I can say that we are blessed beyond measure with people who are willing to help us get over this mountain.

We got our USCIS receipt back on the same day our papers came back authenticated from the Secretary of the State.  That was Saturday.  All of the paperwork from Taiwan is in both Chinese and in English.  It's really neat.  My favorite part is seeing her name (her given name from her birth parents) along with ours.  Even our receipt for the authenticating has her name with ours.  We're making progress.  Now we just need our passports and oh, a little bit of cash...

Tomorrow is the final day of our fundraising photoshoot.  I'm having so much fun!  Kelly McG is such a blessing!  Her husband is getting ready to head out for a year (military stuff) very shortly but she is still giving this time for us.  She told me last night that she knew she was going to do this for someone and I told her that I knew she was going to offer.  God is so beyond cool.  We have a little ladybug bond, too.

On a side note, my oldest is working on his drivers license.  Very bittersweet.

I'll poke my head back in tomorrow to finish up the Bluebonnet story.

A good day...

Well, I went to post our prayer request for money on a children's clothing forum and I wasn't expecting what I got....  A few people suggested that I put a donate link in my signature and several people donated today.  I'm so humbled and I feel incredibly blessed.  We've still got a way to go to get to the $5000 goal but my heart was so warmed by these people who have never even met me, but gave to help bring Avalyn home.  I've prayed for each of them and I'm thankful beyond words.  We also had a friend of a friend (although, I consider her a friend--we've emailed a few times) donate and she amazed me, too.

Also, we got 12 documents, notarized by a total of 6 different notaries (not on each page but divided up) sent to the Secretary of State today for authenticating.  I think that was the last of the paperwork.  If it's not, don't tell me.  I like a little surprise here and there. ;)  That same paperwork will come back to us and then we'll send it back out to TECO (Taipei Economic and Cultural Office) in Houston for a second round of authenticating.  We'll enclose an envelope addressed to our placing agency.  Then we have $6250 due!  Phew!!!!

We also got some more fundraisers planned.  Busy day....$105 closer to Avalyn.  We'll get there.

Our current fundraiser

Being Thankful

You know, I should be thankful for the stress of the wait, right?

Part of Ryan's (my 16-year-old) curriculum for History this year was to read The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom.  I had read it before, but I noticed something more about Corrie this time.  She was funny!  I won't ruin it for you by giving too many details or spoilers, but there is a section that reminds me of me right now.  Not because I'm funny, but because I'm human.

Corrie and Betsie, her sister, have just ended up in a not so nice place against their wills.  Betsie is always so upbeat and positive while Corrie is struggling with their new situation.  As they are examining their new digs, Betsie reminds Corrie that that morning they had studied First Thessalonians where it says, "Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus."  Corrie starts looking for things to be thankful for and bit by bit Betsie prompts her with specific things to be thankful for that make my stress look like absolutely nothing.  Finally, Betsie says that they should be thankful for the crowding because more people will get to hear God's word.  So Corrie, after being thankful for everything else Betsie has suggested says, "Oh, all right.  Thank You for the jammed, crammed, stuffed, packed, suffocating crowds."  Teehee!  I love it!  The flea part is even better, but I won't ruin it for you.

So, I'm trying to be thankful for the money that isn't here, yet.  Thankful for the faith that this is growing in me.  There have been miracles already.  At our co-op, a precious friend just handed me a check for $1000!  It made me cry.  Good cry. Thankful cry.  This happened even before I knew about the chunk of money that's due now.  I probably would've bawled if I'd known about that part.  I had another friend send me $200.  Yep, again, tears.  I think I'll cry over every penny because it brings us that much closer to Avalyn.

So, Thank You, Lord, for the stressful, busy, scary, crazy, paperwork-laden adoption process.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Pictures and a big bill

Well, we got the first official pictures of our munchkin!  She has grown so much and she has HAIR!  We've been looking at them for days.  I look at these pictures and I think of the Steven Curtis Chapman song "Fingerprints of God."  She's another one of God's incredible masterpieces.

With those pictures, we got a huge bill.  Our first really, really big one and we've got a very short time to come up with that money.  I'd like to say that I'm feeling no stress and I know exactly how we're going to pay for that bill.  That would be a complete lie.  I keep giving it back to God but then I pull back from His hands and worry a little lot.  A friend of mine featured us in her blog.  You can read it here http://letsrebuildthewall.blogspot.com/.

We heard back from her birth family...

and they said yes!!!

We're thrilled!!!  That's a complete understatement, by the way.

Her name will be Avalyn which means beautiful breath of life.
